Standing as the fifth feature film in the long-running animated franchise from distributor 20th Century Fox and affliliate animation studio Blue Sky Studios, Ice Age: Collision Course is slated for theatrical release later this July. Featuring a story wherein the acorn-obsessed Scrat accidentally sets off a chain of cosmic events that could signal the end of the Ice Age universe, frequent protagonists Manny the wooly mammoth (Ray Romano), Sid the ground sloth (John Leguizamo), and Diego the saber tooth tiger (Denis Leary) are tasked with exploring new lands and meeting new characters in order to save their world.
Following the release of the second full-length trailer for the new Ice Age movie, fans of the franchise appear to be due for another family-friendly adventure in keeping with the preceding four films. As for everyone else, the final trailer leaves little incentive to believe that there will be much in the way of especially novel content in Ice Age: Collision Course, though it does serve to suggest that it should be pleasing to dedicated fans of this movie series.
In the footage featured above, the Ice Age gang are all present and accounted for when an impending asteroid is sighted on a collision course headed straight for their planetary home. With hope seeming to dwindle for the longevity of their waking existence, Buck the one-eyed weasel (Simon Pegg) quickly conceives of a plan to foil the disaster brought upon them by Scrat’s simultaneous interstellar indiscretions.
Fans of the Ice Age franchise largely appear to be in for another treat with the release of Collision Course, with the footage featuring Scrat once again seeming to provide for the most easily recognizable laughs and grandly orchestrated sight gags. Ever since the first film saw theatrical release way back in 2002, families have had the Ice Age franchise to count on for wholesome entertainment that the whole nuclear unit can enjoy - which is undoubtedly the case once more with the fifth entry in the feature franchise.
Just where Blue Sky and 20th Century Fox intend to take the lucrative Ice Age property next remains to be seen, though the movie is sure to be another hit at the box office following the success of Ice Age: Continental Drift that immediately preceded it. Despite being pushed back a week in order to avoid direct competition with the forthcoming Ghostbusters reboot, Collision Course that should find a willing audience ready to check it out in theaters.
