Lionsgate’s first theme park in China sets an opening day and details on some of the attractions are revealed. Theme parks have been around for years, but there seems to have been a new wave lately of TV and film related theme parks that aim to bring some of the most successful stories and characters to the real world - like Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

There are others, however, that instead of focusing on one franchise are choosing some of their biggest titles and building different types of immersive experiences with them. Such is the case of Lionsgate, the studio behind some big titles on TV (such as Mad Men) and film (Saw, The Hunger Games, John Wick, among many others), which is now bringing some of these to its very own theme park.

Lionsgate Entertainment World is an indoor interactive experience center that will open in China on July 31st, becoming Asia’s first movie-themed vertical theme park. It’s located in Hengqin, Zhuhai, in the Greater Bay Area, and includes 25 attractions from six of Lionsgate’s biggest franchises, which were also box office hits in China: The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga, Divergent, Now You See Me, Gods of Egypt, and Escape Plan. Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate’s SVP of Global Live and Location Based Entertainment, shared the following in a statement:

The Twilight Saga will have two VR experiences: a multiplayer interactive VR motorbike simulator experience where you’ll race with Jacob and the Wolf Pack through moonlit woods, and “The Twilight Saga - Bella’s Journey,” a multimedia dark ride where you will follow Bella’s journey from the first kiss to all the trouble with the Volturi.

“From escaping the Capitol, to braving the mental and physical challenges of Dauntless, to taking on a newborn vampire army with Jacob and the Wolf Pack, we can’t wait for fans to step into the worlds of their favorite films to create their own authentic adventures."

The Hunger Games will have its own experience, called “Hunger Games - Mockingjay Flight Rebel Escape,” a multiple motion-based cabin 3D simulator where players will get the opportunity to take flight with the rebellion. For fans of the Divergent series, the park will offer two attractions: the “Fear Simulator,” a VR walk-through where you will go through precarious passageways and traps, and “The Chasm Climbing Course,” where you will get to climb walls, suspended bridges, and vertical drips in a zig-zag path. Because not everything is virtual reality experiences.

The park will also have dining options inspired by some of these films, such as a Capitol Club and Peeta’s Bakery from The Hunger Games, and retail outlets like Capitol Couture, Iong’s Magic Shop, and Dauntless Ink, for those who want to get a Divergent inspired tattoo.

This park is part of Lionsgate’s big plans to expand with various entertainment centers around the world. The studio already has a spot at Motiongate Dubai with a live show, a motion simulator, and a coaster, and announced last year plans of opening another center in Madrid, Spain, in 2020, as well as an indoor center in New York’s Times Square, although that one seems to have come to a halt. If the park in China proves to be a success, it could be the push that other planned parks need, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the studio announces more in other big cities around the world.
