Last weekend, Hugh Jackman’s R-rated Wolverine farewell, Logan , debuted in theaters, bringing the actor’s 17-year-long time in the role to a close in James Mangold’s X-Men opus. Logan has earned positive critical reviews, maintaining a 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and passed $100 million at the domestic box office within days of its release.
However, Logan is not only producing big results at the box office, it’s also inspiring some ghoulish but great blood-splattered fan tribute art on social media.
Pop culture artist BossLogic posted a piece of tribute art to Twitter on Friday, just a week after Logan hit theaters, in commemoration of Jackman’s time as Wolverine. Presented in a worn wooden frame that encapsulates the gritty feel of Logan, the art features Wolverine’s outstretched, bloody hand hand as if the mutant has taken his final breath after 17 years and nine appearances on the big screen. The post thanked Jackman for his 17 years as the character, along with Mangold and 2oth Century Fox. Take a look:

With his outer two adamantium claws extended – and the middle claw all but sheared away – the portrait almost projects a passing of the torch moment to the duo-clawed X-23 – standing above the patriarchal figure with her psychedelic sunglasses lying on the ground to the left. To the right of Logan’s hand is Charles Xavier’s pill bottle, another remnant of the presumably final chapter for Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
The Melbourne-based artist has been busy commemorating Logan’s final bow in the week since the film’s release, featuring on both his Twitter feed and Instagram account various takes on Jackman’s and Dafne Keen’s characters in the film, often including personal messages with tinges of sadness at the realization that it’s the end of the line for Jackman as the famed Marvel movie mutant. At least the artist and scores of other X-Men devotees worldwide have a possible X-23 film with Mangold to look forward to, possibly with the director’s involvement.
In the meantime, Logan, which enters its second weekend with nearly $115 million at the domestic box office ($305 million worldwide), will face a big, hairy foe with the release of Kong: Skull Island. While Logan appears to have solid enough claws to survive the attack of King Kong and another Beast (and Beauty) at the box office in the coming weeks, it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll see more fan tribute art surface. As awesome as BossLogic’s tribute is, fans may wish Fox would include it with Logan’s home video release in some form - however remote a possibility that may actually be.
