Alongside the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus, Huawei will also be unveiling the Huawei Watch 2 at MWC later this month. The news was confirmed by Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu.

The original Huawei Watch was praised for its classic watch-like design and functionality that it packed in a relatively svelte package. For the Huawei Watch 2, Richard Yu says that the smartwatch will pack a 1000mAh battery with some kind of fast charging technology thrown in. If true, this would translate into the battery capacity of the Watch 2 being over 3x larger than the battery found in the original Huawei Watch (300mAh). It is possible that Huawei will fit in additional battery cells in the watch strap of the watch. If not, I’d expect the Huawei Watch 2 to be pretty chunky.

As for fast charging, it is always a welcome addition since it can help make the smartwatch last through a long night with just a few minutes of charging. The Huawei Watch 2 is likely going to sport updated internals that will be more power efficient. It will be interesting to see if Huawei adds LTE functionality to the smartwatch now that Android Wear 2.0 is out with official support for it. Are you looking forward to Huawei launching the Huawei Watch 2? Or have you given up on smartwatches completely?
